Carlsbad, CA–The Monroe Street Pool will temporarily close on Monday for a major reconstruction project expected to last approximately 18 months. The final day for public use will be on Sunday, the City of Carlsbad stated.
According to the City, the renovation will bring significant upgrades, including a larger pool with 50 percent more lanes, an expanded pool deck featuring lockers and outdoor showers, additional shaded areas, improved bleachers and parking, modernized pool equipment, and sustainability enhancements. These improvements will ensure compliance with current health, safety, and building codes while better serving the community for years to come.
Construction work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with occasional Saturday work. Nearby residents should expect some noise and increased construction traffic during these hours.
The newly renovated pool is anticipated to reopen in summer 2026. The Alga Norte Aquatic Center will remain open to accommodate community members.
Monroe Street Pool memberships will be discontinued as of March 31, and prorated refunds will be issued after closure. Those interested in an Alga Norte Aquatic Center membership can visit the city’s website or contact Parks and Recreation staff at (442) 339-5777.
