Oceanside, CA–A 17-year-old male allegedly connected with a fight near the Oceanside harbor Monday night suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run vehicle collision at a pay lot, authorities said.

The Oceanside Police officers responded to a report around 11:15 p.m. of a fight in the area of 1200 North Harbor Drive.

While checking the area for possible suspects, officers located an unresponsive male lying in the parking lot of Pay Lot 10 at the corner of North Pacific Street and North Harbor Drive. The victim appeared to have been hit by a vehicle, Oceanside Police Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Atenza stated in a news release.

Oceanside Fire Department medical personnel arrived on the scene, began life-saving measures, and airlifted the victim to Scripps La Jolla with life-threatening injuries. The suspect, a 15-year-old male who had fled the scene, was located by officers and detained nearby.

Based on investigators’ preliminary information, both teens were involved in the initial altercation that alerted officers to the area, and alcohol was a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Accident Investigator Paul at (760) 435-4431 or email dcpaul@oceansideca.org.
