Oceanside police arrest suspect in elderly woman’s homicide

By Gina Yarbrough

Oceanside, CA–A 25-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of homicide of an elderly woman who was found dead in her Oceanside home, authorities said.

The Oceanside Police Department said the suspect will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Detectives said the killing appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Officers were called around 6:15 p.m., Nov. 21, to the 300 block of Talon Ridge Way for a report of an unresponsive 83-year-old woman. When they arrived, officers found her dead. Evidence at the scene indicated she had been killed, police said.

The woman’s name has not been released at her family’s request.

Detectives from the department’s Crimes of Violence Unit led the investigation and identified a neighbor as the suspected killer.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oceanside Police Detective Mark Theriot at 760-435-4378 or the department’s anonymous tip line at (760) 435-4730.
