Rancho Santa Fe, CA–Actor Dylan Walsh, best known for his roles in television’s “Nip/Tuck,” “Blue Bloods,” and “Superman & Lois,” is lending his voice to animal welfare as the newest featured luminary of the international Remember Me Thursday campaign.
Now in its 13th year, Remember Me Thursday is observed on the fourth Thursday of September. The global awareness campaign unites more than 1,000 animal welfare organizations across 190 countries to draw attention to millions of orphaned pets in need of adoption.
Each year, a prominent entertainer helps lead the effort. Walsh follows in the footsteps of Diane Keaton, Kristen Bell, Kristin Chenoweth, and last year’s featured luminary, Kaley Cuoco.
“In our current world, I see too many shelter pets left alone and abandoned, all of them deserving of a loving family and forever homes,” Walsh said. “I am proud to have my name linked to Remember Me Thursday. Any organization whose mission is helping animals is something everyone should be behind.”
Walsh’s commitment to rescue work is personal. In 2019, he partnered with San Diego-based rescue The Animal Pad to promote dog adoptions, generating dozens of applications within an hour. He and his wife Leslie adopted their dog Ash from Dogs and Cats of Antigua and are now caring for their dog Riley, who is battling cancer.
“Whether it’s in the shelter or in a loving home – it’s important we make sure our animals feel the strength of love and support during their hard times,” Walsh said.
The campaign was founded in 2013 by Helen Woodward Animal Center President and CEO Mike Arms, who was moved by the staggering number of shelter animals euthanized each year. Since its launch, Remember Me Thursday has reached millions through candlelighting ceremonies, social media campaigns, and celebrity advocacy, generating more than 2 billion online impressions.
This year’s observance takes place September 25, with animal lovers around the world encouraged to light a candle—virtually or in person—and share rescue stories online alongside Walsh and other advocates.
