Chula Vista, CA–The Chula Vista Police Department will hold a presentation on its use and maintenance of military-style equipment at the City of Chula Vista Council Chambers on March 26, from 2 to 4 p.m.
During the session, department leaders will review the annual Military Equipment Use Report, detailing the current use of military-style equipment within the department. The presentation will provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions, share comments, and express concerns.
This meeting is part of the department’s compliance with California State Assembly Bill 481 (AB 481), which became law in January 2022. The legislation mandates law enforcement agencies to publish an annual report covering inventory, costs, and usage of military-style equipment from the previous year. The scope of the report includes specialized equipment as well as commonly used police tools like command vehicles, commercial drones, and less-lethal devices—all of which are now classified as military-style equipment under the law.
