Oceanside, CA–A female pedestrian was struck and killed on a highway early Saturday morning in Oceanside, authorities said.
Oceanside police responded to a report of a traffic collision around 4:30 a.m. on State Route 76 at Benet Road. Upon arrival, they found a woman lying in the westbound lanes. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers at the scene believe the woman was crossing the highway against a red light. A vehicle traveling westbound on SR-76 entered the intersection at Benet Road and struck the pedestrian in the middle of the intersection. The driver immediately stopped and waited for the police to arrive. The driver was not injured. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be a factor in the collision, Oceanside police said in a news release.
The name of the woman has not been released pending family notification.
