SAN DIEGO–San Diego County Crime Stoppers and investigators from the San Diego Police Department’s Northeastern Division are asking for assistance from the public to help identify and locate an unknown suspect wanted for stealing an American flag.
Detectives said on July 5 at approximately 2:45 a.m., an unknown suspect stole a large “wall-sized” cloth American flag from the front yard of a Scripps Ranch resident.
Detectives said the victim was awakened from bed when she heard a noise in the front yard. The victim got up and saw the suspect removing the flag, which was affixed to a front yard wall. The victim immediately chased the suspect, who was now carrying the flag, back to his car. As the suspect sat in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, the victim pulled open the driver’s side door. The suspect immediately sped away knocking the victim to the ground. The victim sustained minor injuries (scrapes and bruises) down the right side of her body. The flag is valued at more than $1,000.
The suspect is described as a middle-eastern male, 18-20 years-old, approximately 6’ tall, medium build, clean shaven, short hair cut, well groomed.
He was last seen driving a late model Dodge Durango SUV, possibly silver or light colored.
