SAN DIEGO–San Diego homicide detectives arrested Friday two people and charged them with the murder of San Diego resident Cordell King.
The suspects, 28 year-old Jennifer Whitmer and 25 year-old Dionte Simpson, both from San Diego, were taken into custody by Gang Suppression Team officers.
On April 17, 2011, King, 28, was shot and killed in the 4600 block of Thorn Street. At the time of the murder, Cordell was standing near the sidewalk when a vehicle occupied by four suspects pulled up to the victim and stopped. Several gunshots were fired at Cordell, striking him several times in the torso. The vehicle initially drove away, but turned around and returned to the scene. A suspect exited the vehicle and shot the victim several more times while he was on the ground.
Officers found Cordell lying in the street and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and further arrests are anticipated.
