POWAY–Two people were injured, and one horse was killed Tuesday in a traffic collision on State Route 67 in Poway, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Shortly after 1 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision involving a semi-trailer and a pick-up truck hauling a horse trailer at SR-67 just north of Poway Road. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a single overturned Dodge Ram pick-up truck located off the roadway down a shallow ravine. This was a collision accident involving a semi-truck.
The driver had applied its brakes and veered into the oncoming lane of traffic. It collided into the pick-up truck and trailer which was traveling in the opposite direction, forcing them off the roadway. A horse was found dead inside the horse trailer. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were transported by paramedics to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where they were admitted for non-life threatening injuries.
The horse trailer was torn away from the truck and was also off the roadway. Through the course of the investigation, it appeared the semi-trailer was traveling southbound on State Route-67, according to investigators.
Alcohol was not suspected to have contributed to the collision.
