Oceanside, CA–A pick-up truck carrying pool chemicals broke down on the road, and was rear-ended by two vehicles on Wednesday in Oceanside, authorities said.
The collision caused pool chemicals to spill onto the roadway on College Boulevard near Barnard Drive. The combination of common pool chemicals released dangerous chlorine gas on the road, the Oceanside Fire Department said in a news release.
Oceanside fire crews, and police, responded to the scene around 2:48 p.m. and isolated the area. The San Diego Haz-Mat Team and a County of Environmental Health Haz-Mat specialist were called to the scene to assist with neutralizing the chemical threat. Once the threat was eliminated, the damaged vehicles were towed away,
No injuries were reported to the public or first responders.
Oceanside Public Works used a street sweeper to clean the area and traffic flow was restored to College Blvd.
