SAN DIEGO–Due to Trolley construction work, three C Street Trolley stations will be closed this weekend. The work is all part of the $620 million Trolley Renewal project to rebuild the Orange and Blue Trolley lines. The closures will begin at 10 p.m. this Friday and stations will reopen for the start of service Monday morning.
Dec. 16-18 weekend service changes include:
No trolley service between City College and Santa Fe Depot. Substitute shuttle bus service will be provided at City College, Fifth Avenue, Civic Center, America Plaza, and Santa Fe Depot. Some bus stops may be a block away from the Trolley station.
For this weekend only, the Blue Line train will provide direct service between Old Town and 12th & Imperial via the Bayside stations, which include Seaport Village, Convention Center and Gaslamp Quarter. This will accommodate Blue Line and Orange Line riders who want to avoid the substitute bus service on C Street and go to stations outside of the downtown area.
A temporary station for America Plaza is located two blocks east on C Street between State Street and Columbia Street.
These Trolley station closures are necessary to replace track and to raise station platforms. At the end of the three-year construction project, new low-floor trolley cars will operate throughout the MTS Trolley network and passengers will enjoy faster trips, better on-time performance, and enhanced amenities including next arrival electronic message boards and new shelters. Work will also include Quiet Zone improvements in the downtown area for heavy rail.
