SAN DIEGO–The County Animal Services’ three regional shelters are now open to the public on Sundays. The extended day, which began Sunday, is part of a 90-day pilot project.
County officials say the project will give the public an opportunity to visit and adopt available animals from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. The shelters are closed Mondays and holidays.
The County Animal shelters opening on Sundays are located at 2481 Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad; 5821 Sweetwater Road, Bonita, and Linda Vista, 5480 Gaines Street.
The trial period ends Jan. 22, 2017. County officials will evaluate the results to see if the change should be made permanent.
If successful, Animal Services would seek the funding to make a six-day week permanent when the next fiscal year starts in July 2017.
All of the dogs, cats and rabbits that are adopted from County Animal Services are spayed and neutered before leaving the shelter. They’re also microchipped, given current vaccinations and flea control, plus a free veterinary exam within the first 10 days.
