SAN DIEGO–Caltrans advises motorists that speeds have been reduced from 70 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour on both sides a 17-mile stretch of Interstate 8 from Crestwood Road to the In-Ko Pah Park Road near the San Diego/Imperial county line.
The temporary speed reduction takes place during construction work hours Monday-Friday and some weekends from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The speed decrease is needed because highway workers are working behind cones close to live traffic.
Construction crews began work this spring to replace pavement in both directions on I-8 from Crestwood Road to In-Ko-Pah. The work will be completed in early 2016.
Additional California Highway Patrol coverage will be in place to enforce the speed limit. Fines are doubled when speeding in a construction zone.
