SANTEE–Fourteen juveniles were arrested during a curfew sweep in Santee and Lakeside. The sweep was conducted from 10:00 p.m. on Thursday through 1:30 a.m. on Friday. One juvenile was found to be in possession of marijuana.
The juveniles were all released to their parents at the Santee Sheriff’s Station. Of the juveniles arrested, eleven were given the opportunity to participate in a diversion program through San Diego Youth Services. The other cases will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review. Deputies were also out on patrol to look for social host violations. No social host violations were found during the sweep.
Deputies say he goal of the special enforcement is protect the children in the communities. They remind the public that it is against the law to serve alcohol to minors, or host underage drinking parties. A social host does not have to be 21 years of age to be in violation of the law. Anyone allowing minors to drink alcohol will be arrested, cited or fined up to $1,000 or more, serve up to six months in jail and billed for law enforcement services.
