CARLSBAD–A suspicious package left in the Westfield Carlsbad mall men’s room Saturday afternoon forced a temporary closure of an area in the mall.
Carlsbad police officers received a call at 3:58 p.m. of the suspicious package, described as being approximately 4 inches x 1 inch, black in color, with wires sticking out of it.
Officers determined that the device was significant enough to have the San Diego Sheriff’s Bomb personnel respond for an evaluation.
Sheriff’s bomb personnel evaluated the device, which had been placed between a sink basin and a mirror in the men’s restroom inside the mall. The bomb team evaluated the device through their x-ray machine and made the decision to destroy it by water cannon.
Bomb personnel declared the scene clear at approximately 6:05 p.m.
