Students to receive 2010 MLK Scholarship awards this Friday

June 3, 2010 By Staff

OCEANSIDE–Thirteen students from six different high schools will share $25,000 in scholarship funds as recipients of the 2010 City of Oceanside – Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Awards.

The students will be introduced at the annual garden reception, which will be held on Friday, June 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the home of Stephen and Janet Lacy.

The garden reception is the sole fundraising event for the scholarship program; tickets for the evening at $35 per person are available at the door. All funds raised at the garden reception go to the scholarship program; the City of Oceanside sponsors the program but no public funds are used in the program.

This is the nineteenth year for the program with over $450,000 distributed to 200 students since inception. The scholarship program is open to all high school seniors who live in the City of Oceanside; for more information on the program and when applications will be available for the 2011 awards, call (760) 435-3393.
