Carlsbad, CA–A structure fire Friday severely damaged a home and displaced a family of four and a dog in downtown Carlsbad, authorities said.
Carlsbad and Oceanside Fire Department fire crews responded to calls of a fire at 6:41 p.m. in the 3000 block of Jefferson Street.
When fire crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the side of the single-story home.
Carlsbad Village Drive was closed from Harding Street to Roosevelt Street due to the structure fire.
Fire crews were able to contain the structure fire in less than 10 minutes, according to Carlsbad Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Evonsion.
The family was not inside the home when the blaze erupted. There were no injuries reported, according to fire officials.
“The homeowner was here, but I’m not sure if he was here when it got started,” Evonsion said.
“About a quarter of the house is a total loss.”
The Red Cross was called to assist the family with shelter.
Fire investigators believe the fire may have started in a shed then transferred to the side of the house.
The cause of the structure fire is under investigation.
