December 26, 2016 By sdcnews

ESCONDIDO–A solo vehicle collision Saturday claimed the lives of a driver and a passenger in Escondido.

A 38-year-old female, of Escondido, was driving her 2003 Nissan Xterra southbound on Great Southern Overland Stage Route of 1849 (S2) in east rural San Diego county, south of State Route 78. The vehicle was traveling at an unknown speed.

The female driver was driving on and off the roadway through standing rainwater on the right shoulder when she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled up a dirt berm and overturned.

The unrestrained driver was ejected from the vehicle and the vehicle came to rest on top of her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front passenger, a 47-year-old female, of Escondido, was also pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained during the collision.

The driver’s children, an 8-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, received minor injuries and were transported to Rady Children’s Hospital for further evaluation.
