December 16, 2016 By sdcnews

SAN DIEGO–Chief Deputy District Attorney Summer Stephan was recognized by the Interfaith Center for Worker Justice of San Diego County at their 13th annual Voices for Justice Breakfast, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office reports.

Stephan received the Voices for Justice Award for her efforts leading the fight against human trafficking in the San Diego region.

“Chief Deputy DA Summer Stephan’s leadership in this area is making a real difference,” DA Bonnie Dumanis said. “Her work building community partnerships is helping to support victims and hold traffickers accountable more than ever.”

Chief Deputy DA Stephan currently serves as Chair of the County of San Diego Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Advisory Council, and Co-Chairs the California District Attorneys Association Human Trafficking Committee.  She has served for more than 26 years as a prosecutor for the DA’s Office, where she has been Chief of the North County Branch and Chief of the Sex Crimes and Human Trafficking Division.

Other honorees of the Voices for Justice Award this year included President of Service Employees International Union Local 221 David Garcias, International Representative for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 569 Johnny Simpson, Regional Vice-President of San Diego Gas & Electric Frank Urtasun, Executive Director of Alliance San Diego Andrea Guerrero, and Associate Director of Alliance San Diego Christopher R.
