SAN DIEGO — At an endorsement meeting of the Republican Party of San Diego County Saturday, Councilman Carl DeMaio earned the Party’s endorsement.
A 2/3 vote of committee members was required to back a candidate and DeMaio shocked political observers by clinching the endorsement with room to spare on the first ballot.
“I appreciate the endorsement of the Republican Party and look forward to earning the support of Democrats and Independent voters who understand the fundamental need for reform at City Hall,” said DeMaio.
“Today’s vote shows that this Party is united behind the fiscal reform agenda that San Diego desperately needs,” said Chairman Tony Krvaric. “We are committed to advancing reform with a complete slate of candidates and initiatives.”
The endorsement means DeMaio will benefit significantly from the Party’s grass roots volunteer base and financial resources.
“This vote was a reflection of growing grassroots enthusiasm for DeMaio, and enables us to advance our message of fiscal reform in a unified manner,” added Krvaric.
