SAN DIEGO –More than 400 San Diego Republicans and grass roots activists gathered November 14 to hear from representatives of all the presidential campaigns and participate in a straw poll.
“I was very impressed with the attendance and the quality and passion of the local representatives for the respective candidates,” said Chairman Tony Krvaric.
Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul won the Straw Poll with 30.5% of the vote, followed by Newt Gingrich 22.6%, Mitt Romney 17.4%, Herman Cain 16.1%, Rick Perry 5.7%, Gary Johnson 3.5% , Jon Huntsman 2.2%, Michele Bachmann 2.0% and Rick Santorum 0%.
“We congratulate the supporters of Ron Paul for their hard work. Clearly our Party’s nomination is up for grabs and the Republican electorate is as energized as ever,” said Krvaric.
While there were clearly differing opinions on who the party’s standard bearer should be, Krvaric says everyone agreed to unite behind the eventual nominee.
The results of the straw poll do not constitute an endorsement by the Republican Party of San Diego County.
