San Diego Mayor Faulconer Retains Office

June 8, 2016 By sdcnews

SAN DIEGO–San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer will continue to lead the city for the next four years after capturing more than 60 percent of the vote in the California primary Tuesday.

The mayor defeated his opponents, former San Diego Councilmember Ed Harris and former Assemblywoman Lori Saldana in Tuesday’s California primary.

After he won re-election Faulconer stepped up to the podium to give his victory speech to supporters and San Diego voters.

“It’s not about Republican, Democrat, or Independent. It’s what the right thing we should be doing for San Diego,” Faulconer told supporters.”

Faulconer says he will continue to improve the city with jobs, repairing roads and other infrastructure, and protection of the environment.

“We are growing our economy. We are growing jobs. We are putting people back to work,” he says. “We are paving our streets and we are protecting our environment for generations to come.”

Prior to his election as mayor, Faulconer served for eight years as city councilmember (District 2), and as Council President Pro Tem.

Faulconer began his bid for mayor in 2014 when a sexual harassment scandal forced Mayor Bob Filner to resign from office.
