Rancho Bernardo, CA–City of San Diego crews plan to repair a sinkhole on Friday that opened on the southbound side of Escala Drive in Rancho Bernardo, city officials said.
The sinkhole, caused by a broken storm drain pipe, prompted city officials to close a section of the road to traffic.
Detour signs are in place to route traffic around the closure, which is between Fernando Way and Chretien Court.
Both sides of Escala Drive are closed to ensure public safety. Crews from the city’s Stormwater Department have conducted a preliminary assessment of the damage and will develop an emergency repair plan for the pipe and the roadway,
The closure will remain in place until next week and possibly longer, depending upon the timeline for the emergency repairs.
Rancho Bernardo is the northernmost residential community within the City of San Diego.
