San Diego City Council Approves New Operating And Agency Agreement

October 25, 2016 By sdcnews

SAN DIEGO–To maintain continued transparency and serve its mission to facilitate physical and economic development activity in San Diego’s downtown neighborhoods and underserved communities, on October 18, the City of San Diego City Council approved a new 5-Year Term Operating and Agency Agreement with Civic San Diego.

“We appreciate the City’s approval of our Operating and Agency Agreement and look forward to continue stimulating important, meaningful economic development in our underserved communities,” said Jeff Gattas, Civic San Diego Chairman. “We are proud that we have been able to facilitate the development of over 4,500 affordable housing units, seven new downtown parks, with others in the pipeline, a downtown mobility plan that includes enhanced bicycle and pedestrian pathways as well as the recently launched Free Ride Everywhere (FRED) for our residents, workers, and tourism community, and the creation of good-paying jobs for many San Diego communities. We will continue to seek out new opportunities that will enable us to utilize our New Markets Tax Credit program for facilities like the Jackie Robinson YMCA and other neighborhood amenities that provide jobs, activate the community, and provide safe landscapes in our mature urban neighborhoods.”

With the 2012 dissolution of Redevelopment by the State of California, Civic San Diego was established by the City Council as a reorganization of the former Centre City Development Corp. and Southeastern Economic Development Corp. Civic San Diego was created to assist the City in its capacity as the Successor Agency, continue providing specified services to the City, and maintain previously authorized planning and permitting functions in the downtown area that ensured a streamlined development process. The new Agreements improve City oversight and enhance transparency, while codifying the authority of Civic San Diego based on the work of the predecessor organizations.
