OCEANSIDE–Refurbishment of the Coastal Rail Line, the rail line utilized by the Coaster is set to begin this weekend. This work is part of a larger crosstie replacement project begun in October which will result in the installation of approximately 9,800 new railroad crossties from the Orange County line to Sea World Drive in San Diego.
Crosstie replacement will occur at night so as to not interrupt regular Coaster service. Workers will utilize heavy machinery to replace the crossties, resulting in noise. Normal railroad maintenance dictates periodically replacing aging crossties before these ties fail to keep the rail properly aligned.
