OCEANSIDE–In celebration of One Book, One San Diego’s 10th anniversary, the Oceanside Public Library will host a presentation by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Geraldine Brooks.

Brooks was One Book, One San Diego’s featured author in 2013 for Caleb’s Crossing, an historical novel inspired by the true story of the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College. Brooks is one of seven past One Book authors of adult literature who are returning this fall to celebrate 10 successful years of One Book, One San Diego.

The program, which now has more than 25 community partners including the Oceanside Public Library, is a community-wide reading initiative started by KPBS and the San Diego Public Library in 2007.

Brooks’ discussion of Caleb’s Crossing is timely, given that November is Native American Heritage Month. Her talk will offer a unique opportunity for literature-based reflection on Native American culture.

Australian-born Brooks grew up in the suburbs of Sydney. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in fiction in 2006 for her novel March. Other novels, Year of Wonders and People of the Book, are international bestsellers and have been translated into more than 25 languages. She is also the author of the nonfiction works, Nine Parts of Desire and Foreign Correspondence. Her newest novel is The Secret Chord.

One Book is sponsored by the Linden Root Dickinson Foundation. Additional sponsors include Lloyd Pest Control, the Dr. Seuss Fund at the San Diego Foundation, San Diego Arts and Culture Commission, SDG&E, the Rivkin Family Fund I at the San Diego Foundation, and the Seth Sprague Educational & Charitable Foundation. All Oceanside Public Library programming is supported by the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library.

The 10:30 a.m. event will be held November 16 at the MiraCosta College Concert Hall, One Barnard Drive in Oceanside. To reserve seats for this free event, visit https://caleboceanside.eventbrite.com, or call (760) 435-5600 for more information.
