Poway Announces New City Planner

October 11, 2018 By sdcnews

David De Vries

POWAY–The City of Poway has hired David De Vries as the new City Planner.

De Vries will assist in planning, managing and overseeing the city’s planning, building and code compliance services.

De Vries has 17 years of planning experience, 15 of which were with the City of Lemon Grove. He was the city’s Development Services Director for the past three years and helped shape regulations to pave the way for new businesses in the city and developed new minimum tree and plant requirements through a water-efficient landscape ordinance.

“I have longed to work for Poway since I first discovered the city back in 2011 when my wife and I moved to the north inland area,” De Vries said. “As a father of three, I quickly became a fan of Poway’s amazing parks and community events. As a planner, I’ve been impressed by the vitality of the City’s business park and range of industries and businesses that have chosen to call Poway home.”

De Vries graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies and Planning. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from San Diego State University with an emphasis in Real Estate. De Vries is also a licensed real estate broker, a certified planner by the American Planning Association and teaches a night class on land use analysis at SDSU. De Vries and his family reside in Rancho Penasquitos.
