SAN DIEGO–San Diego Police Sex Offender Registration Unit detectives, Southeastern Division officers and members of the countywide Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force conducted an audit and compliance sweep of registered sex offenders, including those on parole and probation, living within the Southeastern Division communities on October 7. The operation is the latest in a series of sex offender compliance audits conducted by the police department since the beginning of the year. During the operation, 137 registered sex offenders were contacted and their addresses were verified. One sex offender was arrested for a parole violation. Since January 2010, Department personnel have conducted 986 audits to ensure sex offenders are living at their registered addresses. A total of 9 sex offenders have been arrested on parole violations, outstanding warrants or narcotics charges during these audits. These audits have been completed within the communities serviced by the Department’s Northern, Central, Northeastern, Northwestern, Eastern and Mid-City Divisions. Compliance audits are planned for the communities serviced by Southern and Western Divisions in the upcoming months. These sweeps are an invaluable tool the Department uses to ensure sex offenders are in compliance with the law and to keep the citizens of San Diego safe.
