SAN DIEGO–A man suspected of the 2007 shooting death of another man at a San Diego donut shop was arrested by San Diego police Tuesday.
On Tuesday, 35 year-old Martin Villalpando of San Diego was taken into custody by Customs and Border Protection Agents as he entered the United States at the Otay Mesa Point of Entry. Villalpando was turned over to homicide detectives and transported to police headquarters.
On March 20, 2007, officers responded to a report of a shooting at “Donuts Plus”, located at 4090 El Cajon Boulevard. Upon their arrival, officers located a male victim down in the rear of the business suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. The victim was transported to a trauma center, but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The investigation has revealed the victim, 38 year-old Damon Green, and a male friend were eating at a taco shop next to the donut shop when the victim became involved in a conversation with another male. The conversation became antagonistic before the male suspect left the taco shop with a companion.
Approximately ten minutes later, as the victim and his friend were leaving, the suspect and his companion returned. The shooter confronted the victim outside the donut shop and shot him. The victim fled into the donut shop and the suspect fired through the plate glass window, fatally wounding Green.
Villalpando has been charged with the murder of Damon Green and booked into County Jail.
