Phase 4 Films Acquires Alter Egos For “Kevin Smith’s SModcast Pictures Presents” Label

July 16, 2012 By sdcnews

LOS ANGELES–Berry Meyerowitz, President and CEO of Phase 4 Films has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to writer-director Jordan Galland’s superhero comedy Alter Egos. The film is to be released under the company’s new “Kevin Smith’s SModcast Pictures Presents” banner.

Scheduled to premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival July 24, the film stars Kris Lemche (“Final Destination 3”), Brooke Nevin (“Breakout Kings”), Joey Kern (“Super Troopers,” “Electric City”), with John Ventimiglia (“Sopranos”) and Danny Masterson (“That 70’s Show,” “Men At Work”). Musician Sean Lennon, who previously collaborated with Galland on the score of Galland’s film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead, contributed an original musical score for the film, and also plays the role of a super villain.

The film was produced by Jordan Galland, Carlos Velazquez, Dan Farah of Farah Films (Relativity’s reboot of “The Crow”, Screen Gem’s “Armored”), Milan Chakraborty of Attic Light Films, and Executive Produced by Ed Mcwilliams of Attic Light Films.

“We’re so pleased to have ALTER EGOS joining the label,” said Meyerowitz. “It’s originality, wit, and of course genre, make it a natural fit for our Kevin Smith family.”

Noted Farah: “Jordan and Kevin both have a strong inside understanding of the fanboy audience, which makes collaborating on this unique superhero comedy a perfect fit.”

“I grew up watching Kevin Smith’s films, which were a big inspiration for me, there’s definitely some Kevin Smith DNA in my writing,” said Galland. “It’s a remarkable thing to have Alter Egos being presented by SModcast and Phase 4. Feels like meant to be.”

Alter Egos is set in a world in which super heroes are real but have recently lost all government funding and public support. Out of that comes a quirky and very original comedy about an underappreciated superhero who jeopardizes a dangerous mission with his own emotional crisis, and the girl who comes to his rescue.

Phase 4 and SModcast Pictures’ distribution partnership, which was announced in early 2012, will allow Phase 4 to acquire exclusive rights to exhibit and distribute up to twelve films per year under Smith’s banner.

The deal for Alter Egos was negotiated by Phase 4’s Larry Greenberg and Katharyn Howe with Maren Olson and Traction Media on behalf of the filmmakers. Galland is managed by Farah.
