SAN DIEGO–The Board of Supervisors Wednesday approved the construction of a leash-free dog area at the park. Live Oak County Park is located in the Fallbrook area and features playgrounds, exercise stations, basketball and volleyball courts, soccer and baseball fields, picnic areas and an amphitheater but no dog park.
Last summer, the park’s advisory committee put a leash-free dog area on its five-year priority list. Currently, the Fallbrook community doesn’t have a location set aside for dog owners to let their pets run free and socialize with other dogs. The new leash-free area will be built within the 27-acre park at the corner of Reche Road and Gird Road and encompass approximately 3,000 square feet.
Construction is expected to cost about $25,000, covering fencing, gates, tables, benches, water dispensers and trash cans. Day use fees and a fund from the Live Oak Park Coalition will pay for ongoing maintenance costs. The dog park area is scheduled to open in spring 2015.
