SAN DIEGO–Pets of the homeless community were treated to free brief check-ups, vaccinations, licenses and microchips, and donated pet sweaters or coats, leashes and more as part of Project Homeless Connect, which is put on every year by the San Diego Housing Commission.

“A lot of these pets are what these people live for, they’re a part of the family,”said Veterinarian Dr. Cassie Hamilton, D.V.M.

County Animal Services took a look at more than 80 animals including dogs, cats and rabbits at the event.
