Poway, CA–A woman walking her dog on a sidewalk Saturday morning was fatally struck by an oncoming vehicle in Poway, authorities said.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, at around 9 a.m., a Ford Ranger was driving westbound on Edgemoor Street. The 35-year-old male driver stopped at the stop sign at Edgemoor Street and Midland Road, then turned left onto southbound Midland Road. While turning, the driver failed to yield the right-of-way to the 69-year-old female pedestrian, who was walking her dog, within the marked crosswalk. The driver claimed to have not seen the pedestrian or dog in the roadway.
The Poway Fire Department transported the victim to the Palomar Medical Center in Escondido where she later died from her injuries.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in the collision, San Diego Sheriff’s Sergeant Lon Nguyen said in a release.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Sheriff’s Traffic Investigator Tracy Wallace at (858) 513-2800.
