Pedestrian Fatally Struck In Vehicle Collision

ESCONDIDO–A driver struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday evening in the area of San Pasqual Valley Road and Oakhill Drive, Escondido police said Sunday.

A gold 2008 Toyota Corolla, driven by 86 year-old Ruth Waldsmith, of Escondido, was traveling north on San Pasqual Valley Road south of Oakhill Drive when she collided with an 18 year-old male pedestrian. Waldsmith was not injured and remained at the scene.

The pedestrian sustained major injuries to the head. Officers attempted lifesaving measures however the pedestrian died at the scene.

The pedestrian’s name won’t be released until next of kin are notified.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this collision. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
