Oceanside, CA–A 65-year-old male pedestrian was struck and killed in a crosswalk Friday evening by a motorist who allegedly ran a red light, the Oceanside Police Department reports.

Oceanside police received a report around 8:40 p.m. of a vehicle collision and a pedestrian at El Camino Real and Camino Town in Oceanside. Officers arrived at the scene and found an unresponsive man lying in the northbound lanes of El Camino Real. Paramedics had performed life-saving measures on the victim, but he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of a Destiney Fierros, ran a red light northbound El Camino Real at Camino Town and struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk. Following the collision, the driver remained on the scene and was cooperative with the police. Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision, according to Oceanside police.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification to his family. The driver was arrested for vehicular manslaughter.

The investigation is ongoing.
