Pedestrian Dies In DUI Traffic Collision

April 22, 2016 By sdcnews

OCEANSIDE–A male pedestrian walking on a city street was fatally injured in a vehicle collision, Oceanside police said Thursday.

Police officers say at 4:04 p.m. they received 911 calls of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. The collision was on eastbound Mission Avenue east of Mesa Drive on the grade. The vehicle involved is a 2002 Kia Sedona and the pedestrian is described as a white male in his late 60’s. The driver of the Kia pulled over and waited for emergency services to arrive. The pedestrian was flown to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment.

The collision occurred as the pedestrian was walking westbound on the south side of the street. The Kia, driven by Ricky Robledo, 42, was traveling eastbound and was also occupied by an 8 year-old.  The investigation and witness accounts indicate the Kia drifted into the bike lane and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian, not yet identified, succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.  Robledo was intoxicated at the time of the collision and arrested. He was booked into the Vista Detention Center for felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and felony child endangerment.

Several vehicles stopped at the time of the collision and anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Accident Investigator Cobian at (760) 435-4989.
