SAN DIEGO–Palomar Pomerado Health (PPH) is offering free flu shots to anyone 18 years and older at its hospital in Poway.
PPH has conducted 84 low-cost flu shot clinics in North County since September and more than 2,000 people have been vaccinated.
The free flu shot clinic on Jan 9 at Pomerado Hospital will mark the end of PPH’s seasonal campaign to protect its community against the flu.
There is still time to avoid the peak of the flu season, which is usually in February. It takes two weeks after the shot for the body to make the antibodies that fight off the flu virus.
“Remember that you cannot get sick from the flu shot because it is made from a dead virus,” says PPH Community Health Nurse Educator Luanne Arangio-Law, RN, M.Ed. “However, if you are exposed to a sick person with the flu immediately preceding the shot or within the two weeks after the shot, you may become sick.”
Free flu shots will be offered:
Monday, Jan. 9, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pomerado Hospital (Lobby), 15615 Pomerado Road, Poway.
