Palomar Pomerado Health to host gynecologic and prostate health seminar

May 29, 2010 By Staff

SAN DIEGO–When medication and non-invasive procedures are unable to relieve symptoms, surgery remains the accepted and most effective treatment for a wide range of gynecologic and urologic conditions.

Palomar Pomerado Health will host a free gynecologic and prostate health seminar on Wednesday, June 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lake San Marcos Resort & Country Club Conference Center, 1025 La Bonita Drive in Lake San Marcos.

The lecture, led by Gynecologic Oncologist Kris Ghosh, M.D., and Urologic Oncologist Brian Link, M.D., will include a discussion on the benefits of robotic surgery and will be preceded by an opportunity for guests to “Meet the Robot” and interact with the technology from 4 to 6 p.m.

“PPH has the most advanced da Vinci Robotic Surgical System available and it provides the clearest and closest view of the surgical area possible,” says Dr. Ghosh, who, along with Dr. Link, is a medical director of robotic surgery at Palomar Medical Center. “It is also much more sensitive than traditional laparoscopic surgical equipment, which enhances a surgeon’s ability to actually feel delicate movements such as the placement of sutures.”

In addition to the lecture presented by Dr. Ghosh and Dr. Link, robotic surgery patient Fred H. McNorton will share his personal experience with guests.

“It’s important to know your options and be a proactive advocate for your own best interest,” says McNorton, who researched several treatment methods before deciding to move forward with a robotic prostatectomy at Palomar Medical Center. “For me, it was important to be able to resume my life activities quickly. The da Vinci robotic surgery made that possible. The only thing I felt was as though I’d been doing a lot of sit-ups – there was no pain.”

da Vinci gynecologic surgery includes procedures for conditions including cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, vaginal vault prolapse and excessive menstrual bleeding. Likewise, urologic applications for da Vinci surgery are available for patients facing prostate, bladder or kidney cancer, as well as other kidney disorders. Benefits include a shorter hospital stay, smaller incisions, less pain, less risk of infection, less blood loss, less scarring, a faster recovery and a quicker return to normal activities.

Refreshments will be served. Class registration is required. Call The HealthSource at (800) 628-2880, or visit www.pph.org and click on “Classes & Events.”
