SAN DIEGO–The San Diego Padres reinstated catcher Yorvit Torrealba from the restricted list and optioned catcher Dusty Ryan to Triple-A Portland.
Torrealba, 31, was placed on the restricted list on May 31. This season he has hit .287 (27-for-94) with six doubles, one home run, 14 RBI and seven runs scored in 27 games for the Padres. The club is 17-8 in his 25 starts behind the plate. Over parts of 10 Major League seasons with the San Francisco Giants (2001-05), Seattle Mariners (2005), Colorado Rockies (2006-09) and Padres (2010), Torrealba has hit .257 (481-for-1875) with 111 doubles, 11 triples, 39 home runs, 249 RBI and 213 runs scored in 601 games.
Ryan, 25, was recalled on May 31 but did not appear in a game for San Diego. This season for Portland he has hit .118 (13-for-110) with three doubles, three home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored in 35 games. Over parts of two Major League seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2008-09), Ryan has hit .257 (18-for-70) with three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs scored in 27 games.
