The San Diego Padres have recalled outfielder Aaron Cunningham from Triple-A Portland and placed outfielder Will Venable on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 2) with a lower back strain.
Cunningham, 24, joins the Padres for his second Big League stint this year. He hit .290 (9-for-31) with two doubles, one home run, four RBI and six runs scored in 13 games during his first stint before being optioned on July 1. With the Beavers this season, he has gone 45-for-182 (.247) with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored in 54 games.
Venable, 27, has hit .238 (51-for-214) with six doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 32 RBI and 35 runs scored in 69 games for San Diego this season. He has reached base in 45 of his 54 starts and leads the team with a career-high 14 stolen bases.
