Padres Recall Brad Boxberger From Triple-A Tucson

SAN DIEGO–The Padres today have recalled right-handed pitcher Brad Boxberger from Triple-A Tucson and have designated right-handed pitcher Sean O’Sullivan for assignment.

Boxberger, 25, is making his fourth stint with the Padres this season, having previously been recalled and optioned back to Tucson on June 22. In six relief appearances for San Diego this season he has posted a 0-1 record with one save, a 4.00 ERA (4 ER, 9.0 IP), a .286 (10-for-35) opponents batting average and 11 strikeouts against two walks. The right-hander recorded his first career save on June 6 against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. In 41 outings for Tucson this year, he has posted a 2-4 record with four saves, a 3.67 ERA (23 ER, 56.1 IP), a .238 (50-for-210) opponents batting average and 86 strikeouts against 19 walks.

O’Sullivan, 25, has gone 0-2 with a 3.96 ERA (11 ER, 25.0 IP) in seven games, three starts, for the Padres this year. The right-hander was signed by the Padres to a minor league contract in December of this past offseason and went 7-4 with a 3.88 ERA (44 ER, 102.0 IP) in 18 starts for Triple-A Tucson before having his contract selected by San Diego on July 12. Over parts of four Major League seasons with the Los Angeles Angels (2009-10), Kansas City Royals (2010-11) and Padres (2013), he has posted a 10-16 record with a 5.89 ERA (143 ER, 218.2 IP) and 103 strikeouts against 87 walks.
