The San Diego Padres have agreed to terms with infielder Duanel Jones, one of the top prospects out of the Dominican Republic.
“We are very happy to have to opportunity to sign Duanel,” said Smith. “He shows great potential and we look forward to getting him on the field and watching him develop and realize that potential.”
Jones, who turned 17 on May 11, is recognized being a tremendous athlete with good bat speed, power potential, agility and a strong arm. The 6-3, 195-pound third baseman is scheduled to begin workouts immediately at the Padres Dominican Republic facility in Najayo, San Cristobal.
