Padres acquire Jake Marisnick from Chicago Cubs

San Diego, CA–The San Diego Padres have acquired outfielder Jake Marisnick from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for right-handed pitcher Anderson Espinoza, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller said Friday.

In 65 games this season, Marisnick is batting .227 (29-for-128) with six doubles, three triples, five home runs, 22 RBI, three stolen bases and 17 runs scored. He is hitting .295 (18-for-61) with a .348 OBP, .525 SLG % and .872 OPS against left-handed pitchers, as opposed to a .164/.243/.358 line against righties. Marisnick has also posted a .308 average (8-for-26) with 16 RBI with runners in scoring position. He has appeared in 49 games in centerfield with a .973 fielding percentage (2 E, 73 TC).

Originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 3rd round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Riverside Poly High School (Ca.), Marisnick has a .229 career batting average (424-for-1852) with 86 doubles, 13 triples, 61 home runs, 205 RBI, 76 stolen bases and 264 runs scored in 766 career games between the Miami Marlins (2013-14), Houston Astros (2014-19), New York Mets (2020) and Cubs (2021). A member of the 2017 World Series Champion Astros, Marisnick has posted a .333 average (7-for-21) in 23 career postseason games. He has appeared in games at all three outfield positions in his career (51 G in LF, 488 in CF, 53 in RF) with a .990 fielding percentage (13 E, 1307 TC).
