LA JOLLA–On October 1, intermittent overnight closures will resume on Interstate 5 for construction of the future Mid-Coast Trolley overcrossing south of Nobel Drive.
During the early morning hours on Tuesday a closure will be in place for crews to grade falsework, which is the process of adjusting falsework – or wooden support beams – to the proper elevation. On Wednesday, an overnight closure will be in place for crews to pour concrete to form the Trolley bridge.
Full closure of southbound lanes begins on Tuesday from the I-5/I-805 Interchange to La Jolla Colony Drive from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Full closure of southbound lanes begins Wednesday through Thursday from the I-5/I-805 Interchange to La Jolla Colony Drive from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Detour routes will be available via southbound I-805 and westbound State Route 52. Additional closures of northbound I-5 will be required and notices will be provided at a later date.
The Mid-Coast Trolley Project will extend Trolley service from Old Town Transit Center to the University community, serving major activity centers such as Mission Bay, the VA Medical Center, UC San Diego, and University Towne Centre. Nine new stations will be constructed. Major construction work began in 2016, with service anticipated to begin in late 2021.
