SAN DIEGO–As the days grow shorter, the County’s free outdoor summer movie series is winding down. But one of the last films in the series will be very special, with families invited to bring a toy for the young patients at the UCSD Burn Center before enjoying Toy Story 3 under the stars.
The free event is Saturday, Sept. 17 at the 4S Ranch Sports Park, 16118 4S Ranch Parkway, in the 4S Ranch community of San Diego. The movie starts at dusk—about 6:45 p.m. on Saturday.
“This is an opportunity to have a family night out together while also helping young patients at the Burn Center,” said County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Horn.
Participants should bring new, unused toys; suggested donations include infant and toddler toys, stuffed animals, action figures, Barbie dolls, Lego and blocks, puzzles, board games, toy cars, video games and children’s DVDs.
Toy Story 3 will screen in high-quality digital video on an enormous inflatable widescreen designed for large audiences. Families are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and arrive early for the best spot.
The 2011 Summer Movies in the Park series is produced by Fun Flicks, a local company specializing in outdoor movies. Its sponsors include Wilsey Asset Management, the County Health and Human Services Agency’s It’s Up to Us campaign to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and the County’s Healthy Works campaign for healthier schools and neighborhoods. Many other local organizations are also sponsors.
