OCEANSIDE–Investigators are searching for a suspected shoplifter and his female companion who were involved in a shooting incident inside an Oceanside Target store, Oceanside police said today.
Officers say Target loss prevention had contacted a shoplifter and they were escorting him to their office. Near the front of the store, the suspect began to fight with loss prevention and pulled a handgun. He fired the handgun multiple times at the loss prevention employee. Neither the loss prevention employee nor any customers were injured. The suspect and a female accomplice then fled from the store and to a black BMW. They fled from the parking lot westbound on Vista Way.
At about 1:10 p.m., Oceanside police dispatchers received 911 phone calls reporting shots fired inside the Target Store at 2255 Vista Way.
Detectives from the Special Enforcement Section and General Investigations are following up on leads.
