Oceanside, CA–The Oceanside Police Department joined the local community to celebrate National Night Out Tuesday at police headquarters.
National Night Out is an annual event that promotes police and community partnerships to keep city neighborhoods safe from crime.
The public was invited to this free event which included a demonstration of the police department’s K-9 unit, resource and information booths on crime prevention, police and fire department equipment and vehicle displays, children’s activities, live entertainment, and a tour of police headquarters.
Oceanside Police Chief Kedrick Sadler says National Night Out brings the community and law enforcement together for one evening.
“This is all about community this evening,” Chief Sadler said. “The relationship that we have between our police department and our community is excellent, and it has to do with events like this.”
The National Night Out campaign began in 1984 when the U.S. Justice Department awarded a Bureau of Justice Assistance grant to establish National Night Out with the goal of helping foster relationships between communities and law enforcement. Over the past 40 years, National Night Out has partnered with over 17,000 communities and has positively impacted the lives of over 38 million Americans.
