OCEANSIDE–The Oceanside Public Library will offer a free concert by the KSDS Jazz 88.3 All-Stars on September 26 at 6 p.m. at the Sunshine Brooks Theatre, to kick off “America’s Music,” a six-week program series featuring documentary film screenings and discussions about uniquely American musical genres.
The All-Stars will perform music from the genres featured in the series, including blues, gospel, Broadway, jazz, bluegrass, rock n’ roll, mambo and hip-hop.
The Oceanside Public Library is one of 50 sites nationwide selected to host “America’s Music: A Film History of Our Popular Music from Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway,” a project of the Tribeca Film Institute in collaboration with the American Library Association, Tribeca Flashpoint and the Society for American Music. “America’s Music” in Oceanside has been made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, matched by The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library and the Oceanside Public Library Foundation to add live performances and special guests.
The Sunshine Brooks Theatre is located at 217 North Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside.
Following the kickoff, the series, including discussions led by a local scholar, will take place on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m., October 8 to November 12, in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms at 330 North Coast Highway.
