OCEANSIDE–The Oceanside International Film Festival will be awarding multiple winning films this year with a cash prize.
The event, which is now entering its seventh annual, remains North County’s longest running film festival. Serving as an outlet for local and international filmmakers to screen to a wide audience, the festival is offering a $1000 grand prize to the winner of its audience choice award for best picture.
“This is the first time we’ve offered a cash prize,” said Sterling Anno, co-chair and programmer of the festival. “We look forward to not only screening the works of great independent artists, but financially supporting their future endeavors as well.”
In addition to its grand prize, the festival will also be awarding $500 to the audience choice for best high school or college student film. Attending audience members will be able to vote for their favorite films, thereby determining the winners. With the final deadline approaching on June 12, filmmakers are encouraged to submit their work for a chance to participate in this new opportunity.
“Last year the festival screened over sixty films,” Anno said. “We intend to present nothing less in 2017.”
The winners of their respective prizes will be announced at the film festival’s closing ceremony on Aug 13.
The film festival will be held August 6 to 13 at the Star Theatre and Sunshine Brooks Theatre in downtown Oceanside.
