OCEANSIDE–The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and the City of Oceanside have partnered to sponsor the Oceanside Citizens Academy. The Academy is a seven-month course for residents wishing to improve their understanding of the many opportunities and unique challenges the City faces.
The goals of the Academy include:
- To bring together, from diverse segments of the community, citizens of Oceanside.
- To provide an outstanding educational experience emphasizing critical social and community issues.
- To open a dialogue among citizens and the business/government leaders.
- To develop a growing network of citizens whose contributions of knowledge, imagination and energy are directed toward enterprises that benefit the Oceanside community.
The Citizen’s Academy is designed to develop residents’ knowledge of the Oceanside community and to create networks of individuals who can help each other solve community challenges.
The academy will be conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 18 and will continue for seven months on the third Thursday of each month with a graduation date of September 16, 2010. Classes will be held at the Chamber of Commerce building located at 928 North Coast Highway, in Oceanside.
Topics that will be covered include: Oceanside history, economic development, public safety, City financial overview, City infrastructure, arts, culture, entertainment and recreation, healthcare and social services, education, and business.
